The Alaska Center for the Book is seeking original bookmark artwork
by Alaska artists as a kick-off to National Library Week 2004.
The resulting artwork will be displayed in the Z.J. Loussac Public
Library in Anchorage, beginning with a “First Friday”
opening on Friday, April 2, 2004.
A silent auction will be held for the original artwork with auction
sheets available in the Friends of the Library Gift Shop. The
auction will end at the author keynote and kick-off reception
for Alaska Center for the Book’s “Writing Rendezvous”
on Friday, April 16 in the Wilda Marston Theatre.
Reproducible artwork may be printed, with sales of the bookmarks
benefiting the Friends of the Library and Alaska Center for the
Book.
Alaska Center for the Book
Each year, Alaska Center for the Book hosts “Writing Rendezvous,”
a writers conference with featured authors, publishers, and agents
– at a nominal fee. During the summer, the Center hosts
“Reading Rendezvous,” a free family fun fair dedicated
to reading. The Center, which is affiliated with the national
Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, also conducts
“Letters About Literature,” a youth essay contest,
and the awarding of the CLIAs (Contributions to Literacy in Alaska).
