Letters About Literature 2003
Level I

Dear Mr. Sachar,

I am at a new school this year as a 4th grader. I felt left out from my other class members because I played on the bars and only third graders were there. Then, we did some literature circles during reading class with There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom. I feel that it made me become closer to my class. I felt like a part of them when we all talked about the character Bradley. And it showed me and my class how bullies can be so mean when they pick on other kids.

I found out that it can just be a problem with their family or someone close to them. Maybe they feel left out in their family and so they get mad at everyone. I can get grumpy like that sometimes in the morning if I did not have a good morning. I was wondering if one of your friends was a bully when you were little? Or maybe you were the one? I was thinking that because you put yourself into Bradley's life so good. I was just wondering. The other thing that I learned is that girls can be so cruel to boys also. When Colleen gave Bradley a black eye I thought that was mean of her too!

Thank you for writing books that kids are interested in. What is your favorite book that you have written so far?

Your Trustful Reader,
